Remote working – how does it impact your IT?

7th March 2025

With the increase in remote work, there has been a 30% rise in additional cyber security measures.*

Remote working – since the Covid pandemic it has become a regular part of life, with some employees and employers loving the flexibility, while others believe it is detrimental to the world of work.

Regardless of how you feel, remote working is here to stay, and it has changed what people need from their IT solutions. For providers (including us) there has been a noticeable change in the last few years:

Higher demand for cloud services: with people working remotely, you need a way of keeping everyone connected – cloud is perfect for this, accessible from anywhere by anyone in the business.

Enhanced security: as remote working expanded, it quickly became apparent that personal data was at greater risk – this is why 2FA, VPNs and other additional security measures have become so popular more recently.

Support and maintenance: with users scattered across the country, or even the world, the ability to be able to fix IT issues remotely is vital, and these services have steadily improved and expanded.

Additionally, users have found that working from home has impacted the way they use their IT:

Device usage: remote workers tend to switch devices more often as they aren’t sat at a desk in the same way. They might start at a desktop computer, then take a laptop to go and have a coffee, then take a call on their phone as they walk back.

Security concerns: as alluded to in the provider perspective, public networks in workspaces or home connections may not be as secure compared with a more traditional office environment.

Collaboration tools: since remote working started to become more popular, so did collaboration apps. Applications that allow you to work on projects together, even when you aren’t in the same physical space, are essential.

Evidently, remote working has impacted IT services, for both the user and the provider. If remote working is right for you or your business may depend on your circumstances, but your IT solution should be able to cover it, no matter the situation.
