ai rollercoaster speeds up!

If you regularly use artificial intelligence, you will be aware that not only was ChatGPT first on the scene but also that it has evolved from ChatGPT, to ChatGPT 2, 3, 4, and 4o. Now Microsoft-backed OpenAI has announced the launch of SearchGPT.
As exciting and useful as the previous versions have been, this version has taken a massive leap forward. How so, I hear you ask?
If (like me) you use ChatGPT to assist you in your everyday work tasks, you may have been frustrated (like me) by the fact that responses are not based on current knowledge but on information available up to Aug 2023 (correct as of 21/8/2024). So any advancements, news, or changes that have happened since then may not be part of the model's knowledge, which means that it may not know about scientific discoveries, political events, news, trends or anything that have occurred after that date.
SearchGPT on the other hand will not only deliver real-time information from the web but will also provide clear links to relevant sources, so users will know where information is coming from and can quickly engage with even more results in a sidebar with source links. You’ll also be able to ask follow-up questions, like you would in a conversation with a person, with the shared context building with each query.
If SearchGPT is as innovative and powerful as is suggested, there is a very real possibility that it could compete with Google’s search engine by delivering highly personalised results, tailored specifically to your enquiry, saving you time trawling through pages of results to find the eact information that you want.
If you start to think about this a little deeper, it becomes clear what a disrupter this could be. For instance, what does this mean for your shiny shop front website … does it become, in effect, redundant – will websites be replaced by a database? How about social media posts .. will there be any point in those? Will there still be a need for specialists in .. well .. anything? Oh the mind boggles!
So how do you get your hands on this marvel? Patience! It’s currently being tested on a small group of users and publishers but it’s on it’s way, so brace yourself - this ai rollercoaster ride is getting faster!
